Nurses and engineers are not obvious partners but at the University of Tennessee, the Colleges of Nursing and Engineering are improving patient outcomes and the educational preparation of those who deliver care. The projects include Okay with Asthma which is an interactive multimedia rich story funded by the National Institutes of Health, and iCare which is an academic electronic health record (EHR) funded by the Alliance for Women Philanthropists.

Y-12 National Security Complex

Y-12

The Y‑12 National Security Complex is one of four production facilities in the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Its unique emphasis is the processing and storage of uranium and development of technologies associated with those activities. Decades of precision machining experience make Y‑12 a production facility with capabilities unequaled nationwide.

Our PDRD project is built on the collaboration with Y-12, which aims to provide outpatient clinics with cutting-edge system optimization and modeling technology to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of care delivery.

East Tennessee Children's Hospital

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville is a private, independent, not-for-profit pediatric medical center that has served children since 1937. The 152-bed hospital is certified by the state of Tennessee as the only Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center in East Tennessee and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

Institute of Biomedical Engineering

iBME

The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (iBME) at the University of Tennessee has been established to research solutions to medical problems such as devices for improved delivery of medications and monitoring of patients; better imaging technology; regenerative models to help the body heal itself; and optimized efficiency in the healthcare setting.

Colleges of Arts and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest, most comprehensive, and most diverse of the eleven colleges at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Its twenty-one academic departments and schools, seven centers and institutes, and thirteen interdisciplinary programs span the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and the visual and performing arts.
